Both pictures were taken with the aide of one of the visiting graduate researchers who was blacklighting for scorpions in the Salt Basin. Both pictures show the same scorpion, although it moved slightly between exposures. The "normal" picture was taken using the camera flash, while the subject was illuminated with a flashlight so that I could focus. In the "blue" photo the subject was only illuminated with the light from the UV blacklight. For this picture, I did not use the camera flash because the light would have washed out the subject's fluorescence.
