short-horned walkingstick

Class: Hexapoda (animals with six legs - includes all insects)
Order: Phasmida (walkingsticks and leaf insects)
Family: Heteronemiidae (common walkingsticks)
Species: Parabacillus sp.
Common Name: short-horned walkingstick (general)
Date Observed: 2003 August 26
Place: Guadalupe Mountains National Park
Pine Springs Visitor Center (on grass at night)

In this picture the insect is illuminated totally by the flash from my camera and so appears a bit washed out as it hangs onto a blade of grass. The relatively short straight antennae are easily seen however, leading to its designation as a short-horned walkingstick.
