    ortho = straight and ptera = wings
Family: Acrididae (short-horned grasshoppers)
Species: Schistocerca alutacea albolineata
Common Name: White-lined Bird Grasshopper

Place: Guadalupe Mountains National Park

In a recent revision, Song (2004) raises albolineata to full species status, so this species is now Schistocerca albolineata. The paper and further information are currently on the web at http://www.schistocerca.org/alutacea/ (link requires internet access).
