Class: Hexapoda (animals with six legs - includes all insects)
Order: Hemiptera (true bugs)
    hemi = half and ptera = wings (singular is pteron)
    This name refers to the structure of the front wings which are usually divided - leathery at the front membranous at the back.
Family: Coreidae (leaf-footed bugs)
    The name refers to the leaf-like expansion of the hind leg on many species in this family (but not this one).

This bug was prominent on the flowers and seed pods of the Yucca elata (Soaptree Yucca) early in the season but occurs on a number of different plants. Nymphs (juveniles) were present in late June.
